British Studies Prove Organic is More Nutritious! December 6, 2007

Having positive, uplifting Feng Shui energy starts from the inside out, so proper nutrition is essential to living an Inspired Feng Shui Life.  A friend of mine emailed me a report on a British study that states that organic foods, particularly milk, have been proven to be more nutritious than conventionally grown products.  How cool is that?

Positive Feng Shui Energy Starts Inside

While many of us have been choosing organic over conventional, it can be hard to justify the additional cost at times.  This study on organic foods shows that fruits and vegetables contain up to 40% more nutrients if they are grown without chemical fertilizers and pesticides.  Organic milkhas between 50% - 80% higher levels of antioxidants and higher levels of vitamin E than non-organic.   And organic cheese, one of my favorites, can have up to twice as many nutrients!

That sounds like plenty of good reasons to me to shell out a few extra bucks to buy organic.  What do you think?  Is this inspiration enough for you to buy organic?

Feng Shui for Your Bedroom, Think in Pairs to Enhance Your Romance! December 5, 2007

In Feng Shui, the bedroom represents relationships, so when you are designing your bedroom decor, think about balance and think about using pairs of equally matched pieces.  After all, we all want balanced relationships in our lives, right?  Having balance and harmony in our relationships with others allows us to give and feel support and allows our relationships to grow and flourish.

I spoke about the importance of having your bed in the “armchair position”, that is, with the head of the bed on a solid wall, out of the line of the door, but with a clear view of the door.  Now let’s support and balance the bed by placing your nightstands one on each side of the bed.  It is preferable to have them either matching or approximately the same size so that each side of the bed is equally supported.

Keep Balance in the Bedroom to Enhance Positive Feng Shui

Matching lamps will further reflect the quality of nurturing balanced relationships while adding the energy of light to the space.  Remember, in a bedroom, you don’t want to use harsh lighting.  Keep the lighting soft as the bedroom is a space for relaxation and rejuvenation.

When choosing the accessories for your bedroom, choose items that give you feelings of healthy, loving relationships.  Avoid clutter and anything that does not belong in a bedroom.  And remember when we talked about artwork reflecting what is happening in your life?  Choose art that speaks to you of loving romance.

Since the bedroom is your intimate space, keep this space all yours.  Whenever possible, keep work out of the bedroom, save the kids photos for another area of the home, and if you can do without it, don’t place a TV in your bedroom.

Keep your bedroom your special, an intimate, relaxing retreat.  Choose items that support the type of relationship you are looking for.  Think in pairs and choose items that reflect balance and harmony.  Make your bedroom a supportive part of your Inspired Feng Shui Life.

How to Hang a Mirror 101 November 21, 2007

Mirrors have many practical and symbolic uses in a home and office.  But it is important to remember a few tips when hanging them to have them create the best Feng Shui energy for you.

Mirrors should be hung so that the heads of each person are not “cut off”.  Check the level of the mirror and be sure that both that the tallest person is able to see their head’s full reflection in the mirror.

Mirrors have the effect of doubling what they are reflecting.  Check the image of what the mirror is reflecting.  Choose something that you would like to have more of in your life.  Something beautiful.  Avoid having the mirrors facing the main door and doors leading outside.  And avoid mirror tiles, use single pieces of glass so the image reflected is solid and unbroken.

Mirrors have many powerful uses in Feng Shui.  Hanging them at the right height will get you started in the right direction.  Use your mirrors to reflect the things that inspire you, that make you feel prosperous, happy and joyful.

“Life Imitates Art Far More Than Art Imitates Life . . . “ November 20, 2007

We’ve all heard this famous quote before, and there is lively conversation regarding Oscar Wilde’s famous statement, but have you ever thought about how this point applies to your own life?  About how the art and accessories you choose to place in your home or office can affect what is happening in your life?

Take a look around your home and office.  What does your choices of artwork say about you?  Do you have pieces that you love and that inspire you or do you have pieces that no longer reflect who you are or who you want to be now?

Look closely at the imagery represented.  Sometimes, you can get so used to looking at the things in your home that you no longer actually see what they are.  If you have been dealing with a certain issue in your life, it can oftentimes be reflected very plainly back at you in what you have chosen to “decorate” your home or office with.

Evaluate the pieces you have displayed in your home and decide if they fit who you are right now and the life you have chosen to lead.  You may have some pieces that no longer fit and that are ready to leave your environment.  If you aren’t sure if you are ready to part with them, but are concerned with the message they are sending to you, remove them for three months and keep track of any changes that take place during that time.  You can then decide if you really want them back or not.

Choose Positive Images For Good Feng Shui Art

Whether life imitates art or art imitates life, be sure that the art you choose to have in your environment is art that reflects the kind of life you want to enjoy.  That it represents the values you cherish, and resonates with the joy you are choosing for your life today.

Inspired Feng Shui Tips-Start Where it Matters Most-The Bedroom! November 10, 2007

We spend about a third of our lives in the bedroom.  It is where we go to sleep, recover, restore, relax, cuddle, and nurture.  Our bedrooms need to be the most supportive room in our homes.  So for our first Inspired Feng Shui Life post, let’s start in the most important room of the house, the bedroom!

While sleeping, we are in our most vulnerable state, so we need to make our bedrooms as cozy, safe, restful and supportive as possible.  I know that you have already eliminated all the clutter from your space and are using pure, natural products in your home so you have a stress free and chemical free bedroom to start with :).  Bed placement is crucial to a good night’s sleep.  So let’s have a little talk about the “armchair position”.  Isn’t this cool?  We get to start our Inspired Feng Shui Life with two Feng Shui tips in one!

Have you ever walked into a room you’ve never been to before and had the choice between two chairs?  One chair is nestled cozily against a wall facing the room with a clear view of the entry, an end table to one side and a small shelf on the other side with a nice cocktail table in front of you to set your drink on.  The other chair is propped right smack dab in the middle of the room all alone with its back to the door.  Which chair do you instinctively choose?

Well of course you chose the chair nestled against the wall, the one in the “armchair position”.  In this position you are placed in a position of power.  You are supported in the back and sides with a clear view ahead of you.  You can see who and what is coming into the room and have a feeling of security in this position.

The same thing follows in the bedroom.  Whenever possible, place the head of your bed on a solid wall where you have a clear view of the door.  Avoid placing your bed under a window if possible and keep the bed out of alignment with the opening of the door.  This way you will feel most secure, most supported while sleeping.

Bed on Solid Wall for Good Feng Shui

Considering all the time spent in your bedroom, make it a priority on your list.  Start with the position of your bed and go from there.  After a great night’s sleep, you’ll be ready to take on the world!  Now that’s what I call an Inspired Feng Shui Life!
